Jamie Liew

I’m Jamie, a third-year Neuroscience major pursuing science communication! I love writing/reading about science, and I love creative nonfiction, poetry, and theatre. It really STEMs from being deeply intrigued by the human condition and finding myself trying to understand it in all forms. I hope to lend my voice to promoting scientific literacy, how science plays a role in social issues like gender equality, refugee situations, and mental health – and ultimately, to the people for whom these issues are all too real. As a woman in STEM, and as a Malaysian, being able to study Neuroscience without pursuing a traditional pathway like Medicine has been a challenge – but a rewarding one. Having good mentors and friends at university has made all the difference. If you’d like to find out more, or just have a chat, please don’t hesitate to contact me at jamiel1@student.unimelb.edu.au
